Age-wise Food And Care For Rottweilers

Food plays arguably the most important role in a Rottweiler’s maintenance. The breed requires a balanced diet that is enough to make a puppy grow into a high-energy adult Rottweiler. Rottweiler puppies need a diet that is rich in fats and proteins to ensure steady growth. As they grow older, their protein and fat intake should be controlled to prevent health issues like obesity.

Let us have a look at the feeding frequency for Rottweilers at different life stages:

Under 2 Months

While your Rottweiler is still a young puppy, it need not have a structured diet plan. You can leave its kibble (preferably dry) open throughout the day. At this age, you can rest assured that your Rottweiler puppy will not over-eat and make itself obese.

Between 2 and 6 Months

Once your Rottweiler gets older than two months, you should start giving its diet a structure. At this stage, you can feed your puppy four meals per day. These meals should be rich in proteins and fats to aid your pet’s growth.

Between 6 and 12 Months

As your puppy gets older, you can reduce its food intake to three meals per day. You can give your Rottweiler its favorite treats in between but make sure it does not over-eat.

Over 12 Months

Once your Rottweiler starts heading toward adulthood, you should further reduce its diet to two meals per day. This is the stage where you should be careful about what and how much your pet eats every day. Make sure your Rottweiler refrains from over-eating and gets its daily dose of exercise.
