Age-wise Food And Care For Cocker Spaniels In India

Cocker Spaniels are high-energy dogs that should be fed well to keep them fit and healthy. When you bring a Cocker Spaniel puppy home, feed and care for it well to facilitate its growth into a healthy and beautiful adult. For the precise dietary needs of your puppy, consult the breeder you got it from and a trusted vet.

The nutritional requirements of a Cocker Spaniel change as the dog gets older. A Cocker Spaniel puppy should be fed with a diet having 22% - 32% protein, 6% fiber, and 10% - 25% fat. An adult Cocker Spaniel should be given a diet rich in 15% - 23% protein, 8% - 10% fat, and enough carbs and fiber. Once your pet attains seniority in age, it should be given 25% protein, 3% fiber, and 10% fat.

How often you feed your pet also changes as it gets older. Here is the frequency at which you should feed your Cocker Spaniel at different phases of its life:

Between 2 To 5 Months

At this age, you can free-feed your puppy by keeping a bowl of kibble available for it at all times. This is the age when your Cocker Spaniel does most of its growing up.

Between 5 And 12 Months

As your puppy gets older, you need to structure its feeding routine. At this age, it is advisable to feed your Cocker Spaniel three meals a day. Keep track of what your pet eats and make sure it does not overeat.

1 Year And Above

Once your Cocker Spaniel becomes an adult, you can reduce its food consumption to two meals per day. You can always give it its favorite treats and snacks between meals. At this stage of your pet’s life, building immunity and staying healthy is more important than growing up and building strong bones/muscles.
